This month in science #10

This month in science we did many things. For example, we were assigned to human impacts groups. My group was the energy team. We went out in our community and surveyed people, questions that had to do with our assigned impact group. After that we met some people from the Human Impacts Group. They helped us develop pictures and slogans for our human impacts group. My group came up with the slogan "WATT'S the problem?" We also made a picture that went along with the message we were trying to get across. After that we did a final draft of the picture and now were going to make them into T-Shirts. We also tested electronics like, blow dryers and phones.
This month in science I've learned a lot of things. For example, when we did the survey I learned that most peoples transportation is trains. This is good because we use less energy because it's mass transit. I also found out from the survey that men watch less TV than women. This means women use more energy when it comes to entertainment. I also learned that there are three types of human impacts images. The first is to set awareness, the second is to set action and the last could be both. We also learned that when you leave plugs in when your not using them it waste electricity. This is what I learned this month in science.

Human Impact Ad Campaign

I drew this to show that people are using to much energy to the point that we won't have enough in the future.

CSX Transportation and New York State Reveal Low Emissions Locomotive

The main point of the article was to let people know that the CSX and EPA teamed up to lower the Genset emissions locomotive in selkirk, NewYork. They want to tell people that their reducing the harmful emissions in that area. The Genset locomotive has three small engines and one large engine. The large engine can be turned on and off and is capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80%. It can also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25%. The author argues that the new Genset is the next generation of sustainable energy.
I thought that the article was interesting and information giving. I actually agreed with the article because it's trying to help the environment. I am wondering why this is not being used in other areas. They should try to help the environment every where not just in one area.
