This week in science #11

This week in science I wrote questions to posters I saw in class. I drew pictures and wrote what we thought of the posters. I also went to the park to collect supplies for my spiders environment. The next day I drew everything inside of my tank. This week in science Zayra and Corine did research about the cellar spider.
This week in science I noticed that most posters used pictures more than words. I also noticed that the water cycle had the most pictures. The carbon cycle also had the least posters. When I went to the park I notice you had to dig deep in the dirt ti find the earthworms. I also noticed the pebbles in my tank blended into the rocks. Zayra learned that the cellar spider eats its own babies. Corine learned about NewYork's ecosystem.

This month in science #10

This month in science we did many things. For example, we were assigned to human impacts groups. My group was the energy team. We went out in our community and surveyed people, questions that had to do with our assigned impact group. After that we met some people from the Human Impacts Group. They helped us develop pictures and slogans for our human impacts group. My group came up with the slogan "WATT'S the problem?" We also made a picture that went along with the message we were trying to get across. After that we did a final draft of the picture and now were going to make them into T-Shirts. We also tested electronics like, blow dryers and phones.
This month in science I've learned a lot of things. For example, when we did the survey I learned that most peoples transportation is trains. This is good because we use less energy because it's mass transit. I also found out from the survey that men watch less TV than women. This means women use more energy when it comes to entertainment. I also learned that there are three types of human impacts images. The first is to set awareness, the second is to set action and the last could be both. We also learned that when you leave plugs in when your not using them it waste electricity. This is what I learned this month in science.

Human Impact Ad Campaign

I drew this to show that people are using to much energy to the point that we won't have enough in the future.

CSX Transportation and New York State Reveal Low Emissions Locomotive

The main point of the article was to let people know that the CSX and EPA teamed up to lower the Genset emissions locomotive in selkirk, NewYork. They want to tell people that their reducing the harmful emissions in that area. The Genset locomotive has three small engines and one large engine. The large engine can be turned on and off and is capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80%. It can also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25%. The author argues that the new Genset is the next generation of sustainable energy.
I thought that the article was interesting and information giving. I actually agreed with the article because it's trying to help the environment. I am wondering why this is not being used in other areas. They should try to help the environment every where not just in one area.

This week in science #8

This week in science we did some interesting things. For example, I took a picture of a cricket in a dorsal view as shown in this picture. I've also did a dissection. We had to place our animals in ventral view, dorsal view, anterior view, and posterior view. We also had to examine the animals features closely. The animal I dissected had certain parts on it that it got from adaption. These parts such as wings helped it do better in it environment.
This week in science I've learned some interesting things. For example I learned that the cricket doesn't have veins so the blood and other liquids in its body just float around. I also learned that distal describes the location of a part.

This Week In Science #7

This week in science I've did a lot of things. For example, each group was given an environment. Mines happened to be the tropical rain forest. After we were given the environment it was our job to pick an animal from the area. I chose the the white tiger. We wrote about the animals prey and predators. after that we were given an environmental change and we had to adapt our animals to it. I gave my white tiger bigger paws more fur and enhanced because the environment was icy and cold. We also had to explain what goes on in a regular tropical rain forest.                                                                This week in science I've learned a few things. For example, I learned that the white tiger eats live stock.

Classification Challenge

Kingdom:Animalia (Means it's an animal)
Phylum:Chordata (Means It has a backbone)
Class:Mammalia (Means nurses it's young)
Order:Chiroptera (Whose forelimbs form webbed wings)
Family:Vespertilionidae (The majority of common bats of temperate regions of the world)
Genus:Myotis (A Genus is the hierarchal point in the scientific system for grouping related organisms together)
Species:M. lucifugus (One of the basic units in biological classification)
My animal is not similar to any animals in my group. In my group there is a squid and a turtle. However my animal is very different from the animals in my group. My animals order is the chiroptera, which means its forelimbs are webbed together. That is a trait my animal only has. My animal is also a mammal unlike any other animal in my group. That is all the differences my animal has.
